U.S. job growth slowed more than expected in April, and wage growth also cooled, but it may be premature to expect the Federal Reserve to start cutting interest rates before September because the job market remains quite tight. The employment report released Friday by the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Statistics showed that non-farm jobs added 175,000 last month. March data was revised upward to show an increase of 315,000 jobs instead of the 303,000 previously reported. The unemployment rate rose to 3.9% from 3.8% and remained below 4% for the 27th consecutive month. Wages rose 3.9% year-on-year in April, down from 4.1% in March. A year-on-year wage increase of 3.0% to 3.5% is seen as in line with the Fed's 2% inflation target.
